How to find the right protection bollards for traffic safety

When motor vehicles or industrial trucks are operating on your premises, it is important to secure certain areas and hazardous zones using impact protection. By installing robust crash protection bollards at critical points such as driveways, bends or building corners, you protect people, storage facilities, machinery and parts of buildings.

The right impact protection bollards allow you to clearly separate traffic routes and pedestrian areas and prevent collision damage to gates or building corners from cars, stacker trucks, forklifts and other industrial vehicles. At Jungheinrich PROFISHOP, you will find a wide range of crash protection bollards with which you can reliably and effectively protect indoor and outdoor areas from impact damage.

1. Indoor and outdoor use – Selecting protection bollards by material

Impact protection bollard, diameter 90 mm

Depending on the model, our protection bollards are made of steel – they have a metal core with a hard plastic coating such as HDPE – or are manufactured from robust plastics such as polyethylene (PE). Most variants are equally suitable for indoor and outdoor use. Models that are exclusively intended for indoor use are marked accordingly in the product description.

Protection bollards made of hot-dip galvanised high-grade steel are particularly suitable for outdoor use, as this material is resilient and corrosion-resistant. Stainless steel protection bollards are rarely used in industrial settings, as the material is significantly more expensive than conventional steel. Therefore, stainless steel bollards and barrier posts are mainly used in prestigious areas where aesthetics are just as important as safety.

2. Choose static or flexible impact protection bollards

We offer static and flexible impact protection bollards. Both variants provide reliable collision protection.

Type of bollard Features
Static impact protection bollardsImpact protection bollard, Ø 273 mm
  • Available in various diameters
  • Impact energy is absorbed by plastic-coated steel tube

  • Height above ground: up to 1,200 mm
  • Solid yellow models are also available

Flexible impact protection bollards with tilting angleSwing impact protection bollard, indoor use, rotating

  • Flexible model with swing function
  • Self-righting

  • Steel coil spring distributes impact energy
  • Bollard can tilt up to 25° upon collision
  • Reduces collision damage to the industrial trucks
  • Solid yellow models are also available

3. Crash protection bollards for surface mounting or setting in concrete

There are two installation options to choose from when installing a crash protection bollard. At Jungheinrich PROFISHOP, you can purchase models for bolting down or setting in concrete.

When bolting down, the protection bollard and its sturdy base plate are screwed into the ground. Concrete screws are suitable for installation, as they can be screwed firmly and provide the bollard with sufficient hold. What's particularly convenient is that the screws can be removed easily if needed, allowing for temporary use and quick removal.

We also offer protection bollards that can be permanently fixed into the ground by setting them in concrete. We recommend creating the concrete foundation at a depth of between 40 and 60 cm below ground level to fix the cross anchor of the protection bollard securely. This ensures that the bollard remains stable and cannot be knocked over even during a high-energy impact.

Installation method Advantages Disadvantages
Bolting down
  • Easy, fast and safe installation
  • More cost-effective, provided the ground is suitable and sufficiently load-bearing
  • Allows for quick replacement or removal
  • Not suitable for use on porous or uneven ground
  • The load limits may be lower depending on the condition of the ground
Embedding in concrete
  • More suitable for long-term use
  • Thanks to their concrete foundation, they are more durable than surface-mounted models
  • More expensive and labour-intensive installation
  • They cannot be replaced or removed as quickly

4. Accessories and complementary impact protection for protection bollards

The Jungheinrich PROFISHOP product range includes a wide variety of crash protection products for comprehensively securing all indoor and outdoor areas. In addition to dowels and expansion anchors for installing crash protection bollards on concrete floors, we offer the following products for the protection of people and operational equipment:

  • Impact protection barriers for work areas, e.g., to ensure a sufficient safety distance between people and vehicles on company premises.
  • Impact protection boards for cordoning off larger operational areas, e.g. to protect against damage from industrial trucks
  • Impact protection railings for separating pedestrian and vehicle zones and for use as fall protection.
  • Column protection for cushioning collisions, ideal for high-traffic operations as a supplement to bollards for trucks, forklifts and other vehicles.
  • Corner protection for cushioning corners and edges, e.g., on railings, in passageways or on pipes.
