In principle, wet/dry vacuum cleaners function like conventional industrial vacuum cleaners or household vacuum cleaners: they suction up dirt and dust, binding them together inside the device’s container. Unlike other vacuums, however, wet/dry vacuums can be used to remove both wet and dry dirt and liquids — even doing so simultaneously. This is made possible by their unique collection process: the unit's motor fan creates a vacuum which sucks in air and draws all dirt particles through the filter cartridge and into the collection container. Depending on the model, vacuum cleaners designed for professional use (sometimes referred to as cannister vacuum cleaners) can also come equipped with or without a separator:
In general, every vacuum cleaner model can be operated as a dry vacuum cleaner only if required, e.g., if only dust or dry particles are to be vacuumed up. For this purpose, special dry filter bags are available as part of our range of accessories for industrial vacuum cleaners.

Industrial vacuum cleaners are powerful pieces of equipment primarily designed for professional use in the commercial sector. However, they can be used just as effectively for many cleaning tasks in the home as well as in private workshops, gardens or other outdoor areas.
In our online store, you can find many variations of wet/dry vacuum cleaners. When choosing a model, you should use the following selection criteria to determine which unit best meets your exact requirements. The following list of questions can help you choose the right model:
Whether for commercial or private use, the performance of wet/dry vacuum cleaners is not exclusively determined by wattage (W). Other important factors that contribute to the suction power of the device are the strength of the vacuum, air flow volume and tube diameter:
Vacuum strength: The strength of the vacuum is usually expressed in millibars (mbar) or millimetres of water column (mmH2O). The stronger the vacuum created inside the device, the greater this number will be.
Air flow volume: The greater the air flow, the more dirt and dust particles transported through the tube and into the collection container. The air flow rate is specified in litres per second (l/s) or cubic meters per hour (m³/h).
Tube diameter: The hose diameter influences the speed of the incoming air and determines the quantity and size of dust and dirt particles that can be collected. The larger the diameter, the higher the speed at which the suction air can flow through the tube.
Wet/dry vacuum cleaners are versatile cleaning tools that can be used for vacuuming dry and wet dirt particles. These dirt and dust particles are generally harmless, however, depending on their type and nature, they can in some cases be harmful to your health. More information about dust classes and the safe use of vacuum cleaners is defined in BS EN 50281-2-1:1999 and EU regulation 665/2013. These classify types of dust and can provide further information on the safe use of vacuum cleaners in the presence of combustible dust.
Industrial vacuum cleaners are highly practical for the cleaning of workshops and craft studios. The vacuum can be fitted with a dust removal feature via the universal suction tube connection, making it ideal for vacuuming dust in places where grinding or drilling machines and saws are in operation. Depending on the model, our professional wet/dry vacuums feature integrated power sockets that allow you to connect your electric power tool to the device. Automatic operation activates the vacuum as soon as you switch on your power tool, enabling you to clean as you work.
For private use, these vacuum cleaners are particularly worthwhile if you regularly carry out renovation work that generates a high volume of dust or if you operate power cutting tools in your hobby workshop.

An industrial wet/dry vacuum cleaner with an additional filter bag is ideally suitable, if, in addition to wet/dry operation, you frequently need to remove very fine dry dust particles. For this purpose, the vacuum is equipped with a removable paper or fleece filter for dry operation. This supports the integrated main filter by collecting fine dust particles separately. Once you remove this filter bag from the vacuum, you can use the unit for wet/dry dirt collection as usual.
Our vacuum cleaners are available with a range of extensive accessories making them very suitable for use in various private spaces as well as public ones. The devices can be equipped with practical brush attachments which are highly effective at removing pollen and fine dust from small spaces, such as ventilation systems in vehicles. Special attachment nozzles are also suitable for gently vacuuming dust and sand from sensitive parquet or laminate floors.

Wet/dry vacuum cleaners fitted with a separator collect and store mixed wet and dry dirt separately in two collection containers. The separator inside the device swirls the suction air flow to generate centrifugal forces that separate the solid components from the liquid ones. This also prevents any contaminated air from escaping the vacuum cleaner exhaust. Additionally, the filters are protected and thus stay clean for longer, allowing the suction power to remain at a consistently high speed over a long period of use.
In domestic spaces, these models are ideal for removing wet leaves, soil or mud from yards, garage driveways and patios. The additional blowing function on some models even enables you to use the device as a leaf blower in the garden.

A wet/dry vacuum cleaner without a separator binds smaller dirt and dust particles by causing movement of the water surface in the collection container. Additional filters ensure that fine dust particles do not get carried back into the exhaust of the suction unit. With regular maintenance and cleaning, the complex filter system inside these vacuum cleaners will reliably bind fine to medium-sized dirt particles and offer a consistently high performance level when it comes to cleaning tasks.
The efficient filter performance makes these vacuum cleaners ideal for those suffering from allergies and for removing pet hair. However, as these wet/dry vacuum cleaners have a lower suction power than models with a separator, they can only be used to remove very coarse, wet or viscous dirt to a limited extent.

Our professional wet vacuum cleaners featuring a drain valve can suction up dirty water in a very short time, even in hard-to-reach areas. With the drain screw, the tank contents can easily be emptied into a drain once full. At Jungheinrich PROFISHOP, you can also buy wet/dry vacuums equipped with overflow protection and an automatic shut-off feature that switches the vacuum off as soon as the dirt trap is full.
The consistent suction process is useful if you ever need to drain a basement or storage room or remove water from a burst pipe, for example. This is where our special wet/dry vacuum cleaners with an integrated pump come in handy. These professional units enable you to simultaneously suction up and pump out enormous quantities of dirty water.
Our range also includes high-performance vacuum cleaners designed for pool and pond cleaning in the commercial and private sectors.

The main difference between a dry (or standard) vacuum cleaner and one with wet/dry functionality is that the latter can easily collect and store liquids in addition to dry dirt particles. A dry vacuum, on the other hand, can only pick up dry dirt.
The range of functions offered by a wet/dry vacuum cleaner is significantly more extensive than that of a normal household vacuum cleaner. The suction power is much greater and has the ability to pick up different types of wet and dry dirt. However, these advantages are usually offset by the significantly heavier weight and larger dimensions of the professional device. If you plan to use it for general cleaning of the home, it may not be the most suitable choice for cleaning narrow apartments or homes with lots of stairs. However, as a supplement to a standard vacuum cleaner, a wet/dry model is a useful addition to the home, especially where it may be required for cleaning work in the garden or in the hobby workshop, as well as for upholstery or carpet cleaning.
In principle, this is possible, however, industrial wet/dry vacuums must meet the required criteria and be designated as suitable for cleaning up chemical spills.
